Ronaldo-backed soccer game UFL launches open beta on June 7

Strikerz Inc announced today that it’s launching the open beta for its upcoming free-to-play soccer game (or football, depending on where you are) UFL. The beta runs from June 7-9 exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S and the game itself is currently available to download. Strikerz says it’s planning to incorporate feedback from the open beta test into future game development. UFL is set for a global release sometime in 2024.

Eugene Nashilov, Strikerz’s CEO, said in a statement, “We’re delighted to announce that gamers worldwide will be able to experience UFL first-hand in June. This event marks a significant milestone in our journey, allowing us to gather invaluable feedback from our community and refine the game as we aim to deliver an unparalleled gaming experience when we launch later this year.”

Strikerz first announced UFL several years ago when the game was in early development. The company, which is under parent company XTEN Limited, revealed more details about the game’s funding last December, including that one of its investors was Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. He was said to be actively involved in the game’s development.

During the open beta, players can play both the main online mode as well as the offline local match mode. In the online mode, players must create their own football teams from a roster of licensed pros (including Ronaldo himself). They use resources earned from their wins to augment their teams for future matches. UFL calls itself a “fair, skill-based football experience” which rewards tactical prowess and understanding of football.
