Paradox Cancels Sim Life by You After Repeated Early Access Delays

Life By You

Life by You, a life sim from veterans of The Sims series, has been unceremoniously canceled by publisher Paradox Interactive. With its Early Access launch already delayed several times, the publisher pulled the plug on 20th May, delaying the game indefinitely ahead of a 4th June release. Now, it is opting not to move forward with the project at all.

Spotted by Polygon, the announcement was made on Paradox’s forums, with deputy CEO Mattias Lilja writing: “Sadly, we’ve decided to cancel the release of our long-awaited life sim Life by You. This was an incredibly difficult call to make and is a clear failure on Paradox’s part to meet both our own and the community’s expectations.”

Lilja says that although a time extension was on offer, after taking a broader view of the game: “It became clear to us that the road leading to a release that we felt confident about was far too long and uncertain. This is obviously tough and disappointing for everyone who poured their time and enthusiasm into this project, especially when our decision comes so late in the process.”

While platforms had yet to be officially confirmed, Life by You seemed like an ambitious take on The Sims, and so it’s somewhat deflating to hear the project will not proceed. It’s also quite unusual to see a game cancelled at such a late stage, although, in this case, we suppose Paradox knows best.
