‘Elden Ring’ Is Getting A Pre-Shadow Of The Erdtree Patch, Here’s What’s In It

Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is out on June 21, but FromSoftware has just announced that the game is getting a patch on June 20 that will add a number of features and changes to the game, among bug fixes and balance adjustments as well.

What’s in it? Here’s the list of what we know so far:

  • New items will be marked with an exclamation point in the inventory so you don’t have to scroll through everything every time (seen above).
  • This will also come with a “recent items” tab to make that easier as well, given how big inventories are getting at this point.
  • Active summoning pools will be carried over to NG+.
  • Individual summoning pools can now be added/disabled on the map itself, and only active ones will be selected when using the Small Golden Effigy.’
  • There will be five new hairstyles added to the game which will be in character creation, or when you use the Clouded Mirror Stand or Rennala’s Rebirth.

That’s all that’s listed for now, but “balance adjustments” indicate buffs and nerfs, and it would be nice to know those ahead of time in order to be able to plan accordingly. But I expect we’ll get full patch notes either closer to the day, or on the day of the patch itself. The patch will result in maintenance lasting from 7 to 10 UTC on the 20th.

There has been some level of buzz about the fact that Shadow of the Erdtree requires you to beat a tough, completely optional, hard to reach boss, Mohg, before you can enter the DLC realm. Only around a third of players seem to have done this, and many may log in and be quite confused about how they can get into Shadow of the Erdtree. And the answer will be: they can’t, unless they find and beat Mohg. I was wondering if FromSoft would throw people a bone and at least put a waypoint in the palace or at Mohg himself, but nothing like that appears to be happening. I cannot say I’m especially surprised, given the nature of both From and the game itself. They’ve done this before in different ways, but players should at least be aware of it.

We’ll have to look for more information later on regardless the larger patch notes. I’m pumped about the inventory changes in particular though.
