Apple Developer Academy adds AI training for students and alumni

Apple is continuing its AI push, this time with its education offering. The company announced on Tuesday that it will train all Apple Developer Academy students and mentors on the fundamental of AI. Apple Developer Academy alumni can also take part in the training.

Starting this fall, students will learn how to build, train, and deploy machine learning models across Apple devices.

“Courses will include the fundamentals of AI technologies and frameworks; Core ML and its ability to deliver fast performance on Apple devices; and guidance on how to build and train AI models from the ground up,” Apple says.

The new curriculum will be provided to thousands of students and alumni across 18 Developer Academies in Brazil, Indonesia, Italy, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and the United States.

Apple says the introduction of new technologies and APIs announced at WWDC last week will give students access to more tools to build apps. Swift Assist, a new feature in Xcode 16, serves as a companion for all of a developer’s tasks and will let students experiment with new ideas. In addition, Apple says Swift 6 introduces new capabilities to enhance code clarity and make concurrent programming easier.

“With the introduction of curriculum dedicated to AI and other new technologies, we’re excited to see what students will build to share with their communities and the world,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, in a press release.
